The speech of Cultural Councilor of I. R. Iran, New Delhi at the Asian Philosophical Conference, Surat (Gujarat)

Indian Council of Philosophical Research and the Holistic Sciences Research Center, has organized a two-day conference on Asian philosophy at Surat which was graced by the presence of Mr. Om Prakash Kohli, Governor of Gujarat, Dr Ali Dehgahi, Cultural Councilor of I. R. of Iran in New Delhi as a Guest of Honour and scholars from different countries such as Iran, United States, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea on January 3-4, 2018 in Surat, Gujarat.

During this two-day conference, the scholars and researchers have presented their papers on the topics such as Philosophy of Gandhi and peace; humanity; Mauritius - an outpost of Indian philosophy; Religion and Indian Culture; the spirituality of Gita and its universality; the position of women during the Buddha period, Ethics as a way of life and a new model for interfaith discourse in the world today.

Governor of Gujarat Mr. Kohli said in his speech that the Indian subcontinent was always the cradle of great religions, and that the followers of these religions coexist peacefully and affectionately. In the contemporary period, despite the scientific and industrial progress, people are going away from spirituality and this is the root of all the problems.

The text of the speech of Dr. Ali Dehgahi , the Cultural Counsellor of I.R.Iran, New Delhi is as follows:

In the Name of God the Most Compassionate, the Merciful

His Excellency Mr. Om Prakash Kohli, the Hon"ble Governor of Gujrat, Distinguished Guests, Delegates and my dear Friends.

We have ushered in the New Year. May Almighty shower his blessings on the entire mankind and eliminate the agonies, miseries and distress of his creations. I convey my best wishes to all of you.

Before highlighting my views, I would like to thank Prof. S.R. Bhatt the Chairman of Indian Council of Philosophical Research for extending me an invitation for this memorable event. I also appreciate the initiative of my friend Prof. Balaganapati of Delhi University for this Conference.

It is a historical fact that India and Iran the two ancient nations have been maintaining close relations for millenniums. The intellectuals, scholars and compassionate of two cultures in India and Iran performed as torch bearers and savior of their common cultural heritage and made significant efforts to find and remove the dust of strangeness from its beautiful face and help the common society and international community in facing the age of turmoil and identity crisis.
Few months back, the Indian Council for Philosophical Research and Iran Culture House, New Delhi organized a 2 Day Inter-Religious Dialogue on Spirituality in Hinduism and Islam" in India International Centre which was of immense significance and was also felicitated by the valuable Message of the Hon"ble Prime Minister of India.

Respected dignitaries! We know that the soil of east has been cradle of ancient religions, civilizations; centre for different philosophical schools of thoughts. Among the various eastern religions, Islam & Hinduism belongs to the major

population of the world; they are living with peaceful coexistence & mutual respect with each other since many centuries in this vast territory.

Faiths & belief of different religions are always to serve the spirit of world"s civilization. Mankind was always together for decades with Love, peace & social harmony which is manifestation of spirituality as well as moral values; entire humanity has always quenched his thirst by the spiritual messages of religions and has planted the seeds of peace & friendship in the hearts of each other. But in the 21st century, peoples are going away from their own originality & Identity due to influence of mechanism and conquering the planets, thus they have lost their the way of reality, perfection and prosperity; though they are discovering new horizons day by day with the help of science but far away from the divine reality & human dignity and finally they have trapped in a negation, denial & takfir of others.

If you see that the spirituality & mysticism of east has been warmly welcomed in western world and the contribution of sanctified eastern intellectuals & visionaries has been grasping huge attention of world. It is because of this that the moral outcomes of those preaching are remedies for pain & stress of mankind which has sunk in materialism. It can make them closer to self recognition as well as with the nature of the world.

From my point of view the topic of a 2 Day Conference is appropriate and specially when the world is in the grip of materialistic conception of life. The Holistic system of thinking consider the inter-dependent, inter-relational and contextual aspects of phenomena and applies an integrated, inclusive mindset to problem solving. Holistic approaches are concern with knowledge, methods and implications of various discipline and treats them as an integrated system. This approach transforms one"s will being and make us more patience, understanding and help us to become more awake in day to day life.

Asia is the most populous continent with a variety of Philosophies and Religions. Most of the Asian Philosophies have reflected the Holistic Perspective of human existence. In the present age of modern thinking and globalization, it would be an intellectually a stimulating exercise to re-visit the Asian Philosophies for re-orienting ourselves to the holistic mode of thinking and ways of living by critically evaluating not only our own traditional conceptions, but also other opinions.
This mode of thinking also help various nations to change the tyrannical and dictorial regime by a democratic one.
In the end, I convey my best wishes to the Asian Philosophy Conference 2018 hosted by Holistic Science Research Centre on 3rd and 4th January 2018 which will be followed by 92nd Session of Indian Philosophical Congress from 5th to 7th January.

I am pretty confident that the organizer will publish the proceedings into the form of Souvenir which I think will be of great immense for the researchers of different universities and centres.

Thanking you
