Need to rejuvenate Indo-Iran ties in the historical Perspective. Prof. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, Chairman Indian Council of Historical Research in a meeting with Dr. Karim Najafi.

Dr. Karim Najafi a historian and Cultural Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, New Delhi met Prof. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya Chairman Indian Council of Historical Research eminent institution of learning and formerly the Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharti University, Santiniketan, Member Governing Body Sephis Research Foundation, Netherlands and President of Indian History Congress. Prof. Bhattacharya immediately recognized and embraces Dr. Najafi and remembered his old acquaintance with him in JNU and National Seminar in Kinnuar where Dr. Najafi presented a paper.

 

Dr. Najafi presented bouquet of flower and some books and Prof. Bhattacharya reciprocated by presenting the Indian Historical Review, Annul report of ICHR and many other publications.

 

While going through the books "Mughal-Iranian Relations during Sixteenth Century" written by Dr. Najafi, the Chairman appreciated his efforts for writing this book.

 

On another achievement and initiative of Dr. Karim Najafi in preparing Dabistan-e-Mazahib, Prof. Bhattacharya gave assurance for joint venture in its publication. While discussing the ways and means for further strengthening the existing ties and bond between India and Iran. Dr. Najafi emphasizes the historical importance and is of the view that Indian Council of Historical Research can play a very important role in bringing historians on one platform.

 

Prof. Bhattacharya said his center is ready to rejuvenate Indo-Iran ties in the historical perspective. Dr. Najafi said that the services of Prof. Harbans Mukhiya, Prof. Irfan Habib, Prof. Mozaffar Alam (Chicago) and Prof. Bhattacharya can be of immense help.

 

The Chairman of ICHR was very much interested in Medieval. Persian lecture, Persian manuscripts and is ready for its joint publication. He is going to depute some officials from Asiatic Society (Kolkatta) to the Persian Research Centre for the purpose of catalogue and Persian Manuscripts. Prof. Yunus Jeffery's experiences and contributions can be taken into services in this regard.

 

Dr. Najafi invited Prof. Bhattacharya for visiting National library and important historical centers in Iran so that a new opening can do in improving the bilateral ties and bonds.

 

Prof. Bhattacharya in a meeting with Dr. Najafi further said that the condition of Persian in Shantiniketan is not in good shape and it needs some improvement and development.

 

At the end, the Chairman of the historical Research said that we are proud of Persian Contributions and achievements. My grandfather was also a scholar of Persian.

 

Dr. Najafi presented a copy of MoU to the Chairman. Prof. Bhattacharya said that he will look positively and will expedite it for certain signing of MoU between Indian Council of Historical Research and Iran Culture House, New Delhi.

Dr. Ishrat Alam Member Secretary of Indian History Congress met Dr. Najafi and gave assurance for joint collaboration in various fields. He assured Dr. Najafi for publishing his two article i.e. Relation between Islam and Buddhism: A Historical Survey" and "Nuqtavid Movement and Immigrants during the Safavid Period: A Historical Survey" to be published in the Indian Historical Review its esteemed journal. He has personally taken the initiative for joint publishing the Dabistan-e-Mazahib.

 

He thanks Dr. Najafi for visiting Indian Council for Historical Research and assured of full cooperation for strengthening the ties between India and Iran.
