At Iran Culture House, New Delhi for Strengthening Historic and Cultural Ties.

Backdrop

The meeting between the Centre for History and Archaeology (hereafter CHA), a wing of Asiatic Society for Social Science Research (hereafter ASSSR) and Iran Culture House (hereafter ICH) to develop research collaboration between ASSSR and ICH was held on 29th December 2020 at Iran Culture House, Tilak Marg, New Delhi. The meeting chaired by Dr. Mohammad Ali Rabbani, Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of I.R. Iran and Head of Iran Culture House was attended by Mrs. Surabhi Ghosh Moulick (Chief Executive: CHA); Mr. Ashu J (President: ASSSR); Mr. Prabira Sethy (Treasurer: ASSSR) and Mr. Raman Bhati (Overall Coordinator: CHA). The meeting focused on building upon the historic and cultural ties between the two institutions.

Highlights of the Meeting

Mrs. Moulick thanked His Highness, Dr. Rabbani, for giving his valuable time to CHA and allowing discussion of future proposals with Iran Culture House. The meeting took an interesting turn when Dr. Rabbani shared his views on how India and Iran share a very common cultural history. His statement “Persian is the language of India not Iran and therefore it is, own responsibility (Indians) to understand the past and widely disseminate the language by exploring the cultural commonality that both the countries share” deserves yet another deliberation.

The Cultural Counsellor of Iran House shared the details about the upcoming scheduled certificate course on the Persian language and urged ASSSR for its participation. It was kind of him who suggested ASSSR to start similar courses. An emphasis was also made on giving importance to the Musicians and Sufi saints that CHA can take forward in promoting the cultural tradition of Iran and India. Another field of collaboration is in the field of translating Persian poems, stories, and literature into Bengali, Hindi and other Indian languages. With the promise to collaborate with ASSSR in its future pursuits, His Highness suggested being connected through virtual mode facilitating both the institutions. The Cultural counsellor also assured his joint collaboration in the upcoming International Conference 2021 scheduled on 18th and 19th December with all inputs and hoping in inviting eminent scholars from the universities within Iran. Besides, His Highness deliberated on the creation of a WhatsApp Group adding ASSSR, CHA faculties and scholars from Iran Culture House (including Counsellor himself) and some eminent scholars from the universities in Iran for future pursuits.
